The Annual Athletic Meet for the year 2019-20 was conducted on the newly laid Tiger turf on the North Ground on 16th December,2019. The Rajkumar College,Rajkot is the first Public school of the country and ranks amongst the best in India and abroad. It’s a co-educational residential school and is known for its excellence in education and sports.
It was also the 149th Founder’s Day of our school and the event was marked by the presence our Principal Mr Shankar Singh Adhikari, the First Lady Mrs Enakshi Adhikari, Mr. Chacko Thomas, Bursar, the Vice Principal Mr. Abhijit Das, ex-Director – Mr Ayaaz Khan Babi , The Staffs, The Parents and Old Rkcians.
Shri Jawahar bhai Chavda , Cabinet Minister of Fisheries and Tourism of Gujarat State and an alumni of this prestigious school, was our Chief Guest. He studied in RKC from 6th July,1972 to 1st May,1982. It was a nostalgic moment for the Chief Guest as he shares his birthday with the Founders’ Day of his Alma Mater.
“Isa Jalika”,the ceremonial torch was lit and carried by the leading athletes of the school, Shagun Mishra and Harsh Bharada ,which was then handed over to Afzal Juneja ,Old Boy, who kindled the Flame of Occasion –“Samaya-Jyoti”. Afzal Juneja was the recipient of the prestigious Victor Ludorum in the year 2012-13.The athletic meet was declared open by our Chief Guest.
Duke Wellington once remarked, “The Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton.”This statement is important to understand the true spirits of the athletes. Their activities on the field help them develop the qualities that make them better citizens.
It started with the traditional parade of the students. The school flag was held aloft by the Deputy Head Girl , Niva Jogi and the Parade Commanders were the Head Girl, Nazafreen Palia, Head Boy – Dhruvraj Khachar and the Deputy Head Boy – Tarun Raiyani. It was followed by the track and field events. The main attraction of our Annual Sports this year was the School’s Pipes and Drums Band Contingent in their elegant outfits .The School Band was the outcome of the hardwork of the students under the able guidance and training of Mr Padam Bahadur Gurung ( ex-Army personnel). Nazafreen Palia and Riddhi Ahir as the Majestic Band Leader and Astt. Band Leader, respectively , enthralled the audience with their elegant and skilful display of the Drum Major Ceremonial Mase Sticks .They received a thunderous applause from the audience.
The individual champions ( Victor Ludorum) for this year were :Shagun Mishra from Girls and Harsh Bharada from Boys.
The Chief Guest, Shri Jawahar Bhai Chavda – in his address, applauded the efforts of all those who had put in their best in making this event a grand success. He also reminiscent his school days and paid tribute to the Teachers of his Alma Mater saying that whatever he has achieved in life, it was because of them. The trophies to the winners were awarded by the Chief Guest and his wife, Mrs Neeta Chavda. Our Principal – Mr Shankar Singh Adhikari – praised the efforts and performance of all those who took part in making this event into a memorable one. Congratulations to the Sports Incharge-Mr Mahendra Singh Chauhan for his able guidance and mentoring of our athletes !!
