• The Rajkumar College, Rajkot – one of the oldest of colleges founded for the education of the Princely order – was established in 1868 by the Princes and Chiefs of Kathiawar for the education of their sons and relations.

• On 16th December, 1870 the Governor of the Bombay Presidency, Sir Seymour Fitzgerald was invited for the official consecration and opening of the College and the institution began to function.

• The mission of the school is “to provide the rising generation of India education that shall enable it to hold its own in a world of constant change and ever increasing competition”.

• The Institution functions under the aegis of the Rajkumar College Trust, registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act.

• In 1938, on the initiative of its Founding Members, the college became a Public School – the first of such colleges to do so – and is also founder member of the Indian Public School Conference.

• The institution occupies an estate of 25 acres centrally situated in Rajkot.

• Its wide-range facilities are housed in its gifted, large and imposing buildings with a very distinctive Indo-Gothic type of architecture.

• The College is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and prepares students for the All India Secondary and Senior School Examinations under the 10+2 Scheme for Science, Commerce and Humanities Streams.

• The College has state of the art laboratories for Electronics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and a highly equipped Mathematics Room and a Computer Centre with facilities for Multimedia and Internet.

• The College Library is well stocked with reading material suited for varying ages and standards.

• There are spacious, well equipped centres for Art and Music.

• The museum has on display a collection of rare books and memorabilia of more than 140 years of the college.

• There are comprehensive facilities and a carefully planned programme for physical education which includes age-wise coaching for Athletics, Basket Ball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Tennis and Volley Ball.

• There are indoor facilities such as Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Rifle Shooting range, Table Tennis, Squash and Badminton.

• The College Management in 2001, started giving admissions to girls. The school now also has boarding facilities for the girls.

• Once again keeping in pace with the changing times and with the far sightedness of the Trustees and the Principal, a new building has come up exclusively for the girls – The Rajkumar College for Girls with a built up area of around 70,000 sq. ft.

• Special facilities for Music, Art and Yoga are also designed.

• There is a conventional library in addition to an e-library to cater to the intellectual needs of today’s generation.

• The school boasts of having all three wings – Army, Air and Navy NCC Junior Division Boys and Girls. Our Cadets represent the Gujarat Directorate in the RDC Parade every year.

• At present we have collaborations with AFS, Rotary Club and the Gymnase Jean Sturm, Strasbourg, France for student exchange programmes.

• The college motto only says it all. “ Yasya Buddhi balam Tasya “ which means Knowledge is Power.
