Performing Arts

Fine art is that in which the hand, the head and the heart of man go together.
John Ruskin

Singing, dancing and playing musical instruments combine to make MUSIC. All three of these arts are taught at Rajkumar College. Instruments include Tabla, Sitar, Violin, Flute, Guitar and Harmonium, with Bharatnatyam as Dance.

During regular music classes (standards 1 to 8) children are taught the basic ideas of music, its language and various types of songs such as Bhajans, Patriotic and Light Classical. Those with particular talents may take further classes during afternoon sessions.

Our Music staff are approved members of the All India Radio [A.I.R.] and Doordarshan and have received a variety of awards in celebration of their outstanding performances.

The Rajkumar College is a certified affiliate of the Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyala of Mumbai and each year more than fifty of our students achieve excellent results in the Institute’s exams. In addition to our regular sessions we take part in a variety of events and cultural festivals such as performing in the annual IPSC (Indian Public Schools’ Conference) competitions.

We have our own orchestra of forty students with instruments ranging from Sitars to Tabla, Violins, Flutes and as many as twelve vocalists.

  • In 2007, our students won first prize in the patriotic song competition organised by Ramkrishna Ashram, Rajkot.
  • We are now developing cultural links with other schools and last year we organised ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ with SNK School.
  • Our talented masters performed a unique event of ad hoc performance in vocalization, dance and artistic interpretation which we called ‘Kala Sangam’.
  • Our further highlights include students appearing
    1. on the radio programme ‘Bal Jagat’ – World of Children
    2. at IPSC in Scindia (2002) winning a special prize for folk dance
    3. on Television in ‘Zee Little Champs 2007’
    4. providing no fewer than ten participants in the cultural programme for RKC-SNK Principals’ Conference 2007
