The Rajkumar College, Rajkot fraternity shall always remember 24th November, 2022 with great pride due to the unveiling of the War Trophy Tank T-55. Ambassador Sujan Chinoy (Alumnus 1965-74), Director General, Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies & Analyses, New Delhi was the Chief Guest at the programme. A career diplomat from 1981-2018, Ambassador Sujan Chinoy was India’s Ambassador to Japan & Mexico and High Commissioner of India to Belize and the Republic of the Marshal Islands. His father, Shri Romeshchandra Chinoy was a senior IPS officer who has served in Rajkot as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1952. Mother Smt. Usha Chinoy was a teacher, musician, AIR/DD artist and social worker who taught at the Rajkumar College from 1964-74 and also founded the Department of Arts, Craft and Music at RKC in the mid 1960s. Lt. Gen. K S Brar, AVSM, Director General Armoured Corps had kindly consented to be the Guest of Honour. The President, HH Thakore Saheb Shri Mandhatasinhji of Rajkot, Board of Trustees – HH Maharaja Raol Shri Vijaysinhji of Bhavnagar, HH Thakore Saheb Shri Jaideepsinhji of Limbdi, HH Thakore Saheb Shri Padmarajsinhji of Dhrol, Thakore Saheb Shri Krishnakumarsinhji of Chuda and Thakore Saheb Shri Kirtikumarsinhji of Lathi, members of the Founding Families, Parents, Old RkCians, well-wishers along with important Government officials and other eminent personalities of the city graced the occasion.
The unveiling ceremony was followed by an array of programmes by the students of the Rajkumar College, Rajkot like NCC Drill by the 3 Wings, Band presentation, Prize Distribution and a dance musical ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
The dance musical ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ was choreographed by Mr. Sumeet Nagdev. Mr. Sumeet Nagdev is the artistic Director and Founder of Sumeet Nagdev Dance Arts, India’s leading contemporary Dance Academy at Mumbai. ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is a tale of a multi-dimensional journey of India with its exotic history and cultural diaspora and 21st century evolutions. The Honourable Prime Minister has initiated the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav this year on 15th August, 2022 to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements throughout this year. Through this programme we endeavour to join him in his noble efforts and show our support to him. Almost 400 students – Boarders, Day Boarders and Day Scholars have been rigorously practicing since the last ten days for this programme. The icing on the cake was the famous RKC traditional Torch exercise which was performed by around 165 boys and girls. This programme would not have been possible without the able guidance and tireless efforts of the Acting Principal, Mr. Chacko Thomas, Core team members – Ms. Keyuri Gohil, Mr. Minu Pala, Dr. Subhesh Upadhyay, Mr. Mahendra Singh Chauhan, Mr. Sandeep Deshmukh, Mr. Padam Bahadur Gurung and all staff members.
