Brief Write-Up of the Activity:-
MOCK DRILL (FIRE)
“You can never be too prepared”. With this in mind, the members of the Interact Club gathered together on the 29th and 30th December 2022, to conduct a mock drill. A day prior to this activity, Interactors gathered the materials needed to start a fire and scattered tools like sand buckets inside the premises. For the first phase of the activity, Interactors informed, DOs and DON’Ts during a fire. Then, the demonstration of fire extinguisher and water hose. We had volunteers from the audience help explain what they learnt to their peers for better understanding. As a part of mock trial, the club members noted remarks and suggestions. After that we briefed the students about the rest of the activity. By this point, the audience divided themselves into teams, in terms of their dorms. This phase of the drill included us providing them with a scenario where their alertness, evacuation strategies and strength would be tested. The scenario was: You are resting in the afternoon and you hear someone call out “FIRE!” “FIRE!”. Execute your best evacuation strategy that includes looking out for your injured friends, carrying maximum items to put out the fire, smartest ways to escape and cooperation. To make this drill interesting, we wanted to bring everyone’s competitive side out and instructed them that the team who carries the most items to successfully put out a fire, wins. Their commitment was quite a scene! Throughout this scenario enactment, our members observed the proceedings and prepared to start the fire. Not much later, everyone ran together, following the smoke. They implemented the knowledge they acquired about fire extinguishers and hoses to put out the flames. Along with that, they used the items they had collected. Students had carried towels, fire extinguishers, sand buckets and water buckets. At the end, we asked general questions to the students that summarised the aim of our activity, which was to prepare and practise for an emergency. Our conversation with them was not the end of the day; we had to declare the winner! That phase of the activity included lining up the teams and calculating their points based on the number of items they had collected and their usefulness. This marked the end of our drill. Interactors concluded by regrouping and sharing thoughts regarding the resources present on the premises. This activity was crucial for the safety of students and the school, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers and each other for our cooperation and hard work. |
